Imation™ Rainbow™ Color Proofing System FAQs
Q: How do you get the best proofing results with RGB files, Duotones, and PANTONE™ colors?
- When running Rainbow™ software v3.0, RGB files should be converted to CMYK for best results. In
Rainbow™ software version 4.0, RGB TIFF files can be proofed directly by 'Proof file' or the
'Autoprint folder' without having to convert to CMYK. If the RGB file is placed in a QuarkXPress™ page
and proofed to Rainbow™ software v4.0, it should be converted to CMYK before proofing.
- When proofing files that include Duotones in Rainbow™ software v3.0, the files should be
converted to a CMYK duotone. With Rainbow™ software v4.0, the Duotone file can be proofed as is
when it is made up of black and a PANTONE color that is in the Rainbow™ 'PANTONE' library. If
the duotone is not made of a color that exists in the Rainbow™ system library, it should be
converted to CMYK or defined in a Rainbow™ system color library.
- When proofing PANTONE colors to Rainbow™ software v3.0, the files should be converted to Process colors.
With Rainbow™ software v4.0, PANTONE colors that are included in the Rainbow™ PANTONE library
can be proofed without conversion.
